From Construction to Classroom in 21 Days: Building Hope Delivers New Central Academy Campus

When a growing school needs more space, every day matters. For Central Academy of Arts and Technology (CAAT) in Bakersfield, California, Building Hope Real Estate recently demonstrated just how quickly the right team can turn a facility plan into classrooms ready for students.

Building Hope completed a fast-track renovation of CAAT's newly leased facility in just 21 days from the start of construction to students in the classroom. The milestone comes during an exciting period of growth for CAAT. Founded in 2024, the tuition-free public charter school was created to provide Bakersfield families with an educational option that combines strong academics and college preparation with a focus on arts, technology, creativity, and innovation. CAAT is currently expanding its grade levels as it works toward its vision of becoming a K through 12 school.

CAAT's curriculum gives students opportunities to explore visual, performing, and media arts, including areas such as architecture, theater, dance, and photography, alongside technology and college-focused learning. The school emphasizes personalized education, creativity, critical thinking, and innovation, with a goal of preparing students not only to succeed academically but also to become leaders and creators in their communities.

Supporting that growth required more space, and it required it quickly.

The approximately $800,000 tenant improvement project transformed more than 10,000 square feet of leased space into a functional learning environment. The project delivered seven new classrooms, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety improvements, and a new outdoor play space.

Building Hope Real Estate served as Project Manager, helping move the project through design, permitting, construction, coordination, and final delivery on an exceptionally compressed schedule. Leading the project for Building Hope was Brady Hutchins, Director of Real Estate, who worked closely with LinkED Public Schools, contractors, designers, and project partners to keep each component moving toward the school's opening. Delivering the facility in just three weeks required rapid decision-making and close coordination among everyone involved, while maintaining the focus on creating a safe and functional environment for students.
