Valor North Austin and Building Hope Celebrate Opening of State-Of-The-Art Academic Building And Green Spaces

Campus Expansion Adds 51,400 Square Feet of Educational Space To Benefit More Than 1,200 Students By 2029

AUSTIN, TX (Aug. 8, 2024) – The back-to-school season at Valor North Austin classical charter school has a new look this year as the school unveils the second phase of its Valor North Expansion Project. On Aug. 6, 2024, Valor North Austin celebrated the grand opening of its new, state-of-the-art academic building and enhanced green spaces, marking a significant milestone in creating an enriched, nurturing environment for students and faculty.

This $27 million expansion, made possible through the support of Building Hope, aims to benefit more than 1,200 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 by 2029. The project exemplifies Valor North Austin’s commitment to a classical academic model focused on holistic education—cultivating wisdom, virtue, and friendship to help students become fully alive and truly free.

Building Hope, the non-profit leader in charter school facilities, financing, and services, oversaw the design of the new building, served as the school’s representative during construction, and assisted with securing the necessary funding. Key partners in the project included American Constructors, Haddon+Cowan Architects, and lender Schola Building Fund.

"The completion of the Valor North Expansion Project, our fourth collaboration with Valor, is a testament to the power of long-term partnership, trust, and a shared vision for educational excellence," said Building Hope Director of Real Estate Brady Hutchins. "This project was unique and complex, with specific design requirements that allow the school to overcome the constraints of its physical property lines and use vertical space efficiently. We are grateful to Valor North Austin for entrusting Building Hope to meet the needs and expectations of their school community."

The new facility seamlessly integrates with the existing campus and features a gymnasium with a stage and concession area built on stilts above a ground-level green space, a flexible black box theatre space, a library, a larger playground, a courtyard, an open-air gym, an expanded faculty commons space, Upper School art and music rooms, a weight room, science labs and classrooms, seminar rooms, an intervention classroom, and additional general use Upper School classrooms. Additionally, the outdoor environment has been significantly enhanced with new green spaces, fresh landscaping, a school garden, and areas for active play, creating a vibrant and dynamic campus atmosphere.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from Valor North Austin Headmaster Dr. Conor Hill, who highlighted the importance of this expansion for the future of the North Austin community.
