Walton Family Foundation The Walton Family Foundation pursues a philanthropic mission established by Sam and Helen Walton, which began modestly in the small town of Bentonville, Arkansas. The foundation provided a $9 million program-related investment for financing the expansion of charter schools in Washington, DC. District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) Building Hope has partnered with OSSE to create the Charter School Incubator Initiative in Washington, DC. OSSE provided the initiative with a total of $9 million in operating funds and grants. U.S. Department of Education The department, often called "ED," was created in 1980 by combining offices from several federal agencies. ED's mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access. Building Hope and America's Charter Schools are grantees of ED's charter school guaranty program.
Building Hope achieved CDFI funding status from the Department and received an initial grant. Calvert Foundation's mission is to maximize the flow of capital to disadvantaged communities in order to create a more equitable and sustainable society. Building Hope has been approved to be part of a Calvert program-related initiative for up to $4 million. |
