In February 2006, Marianne M. Keler retired from Sallie Mae following a 21-year career in which she ascended from that of a securities attorney in 1985 to Vice President, Corporate Law in 1990, before becoming General Counsel in 1997. Her last promotion at Sallie Mae was to Vice President of Corporate Strategy, Consumer Lending, and Administration. After retirement from Sallie Mae, she started Keller & Kershow, a law firm, with her attorney husband. She also serves as a member of the Board of Regents of Georgetown University, Georgetown University Law Center's Board of Visitors, as a trustee of the American University of Bulgaria and the National Student Clearinghouse. Of particular note is her service on the board of E.L Haynes, a public charter school in the District of Columbia that, after financing from Building Hope, was one of only two schools to receive the highest rating possible from the DC Public Charter School Board. In 2005, she was named one of 25 "Women Who Mean Business" by The Washington Business Journal. A graduate of Georgetown University for both her undergraduate and law degrees, Ms. Keler received a Distinguished Alumnae Award from Georgetown University Law Center in 2004. She lives in Potomac, Maryland with her husband and has two grown children.
